My time in Somalisa was dominated by wonderful viewings of three of my favourite animals: elephants, cheetahs and lions. But before I bore you to death with repetitive pictures of those, here are some other animals that I saw in my time in this great reserve. Well, actually the first is a bird: the lilac-breasted roller. This is my all-time favourite, and the only bird of which I am happy to take many photos
A couple of jackals at a watering hole
And here is one gnawing on a giraffe carcass (more about that later)
Some beautiful waterbuck
One day, when we were out on a walking safari, I noticed a family of half a dozen zebra wandering through the bush about a hundred yards from us. We kept very quiet, as these animals are frequently skittish. They appreciated this, and obligingly took their time wandering past (for once in the right relation to both the sun and my camera)
It is amazing how well their camouflage helps hide them
How did nature come up with this retro colour scheme?
I am sure that this one was giving us The Eye
I love the ears of the kudu
This puff adder was the first snake I had ever seen in Africa
I am very happy to keep a respectful distance from this venomous viper
Just as with the buffalo, I was unsuccessful in my plea to have it change its position in order to give me a better photo
